About Vaginal Discharge

A woman who experiences vaginal discharge experiences fluid coming out of her vagina. The vagina self-cleans by excreting old cells every day.

Discharge from the vaginal area is a normal part of the menstrual cycle. However, the colour, amount, and consistency of discharge can vary depending on your menstrual cycle.

You should consult your gynaecologist when

  • Your discharge has an unusual odor or appearance
  • You experience itching, burning, or swelling in the genital area
  • You develop pelvic pain
